Sprint Showdown to Open the Race – Preview of Stage 1 of the 3rd Tour de Pologne Women

The 3rd Tour de Pologne Women – the only Polish women’s race in the Union Cycliste Internationale calendar – will begin in Zamość. The presence of many stars of Polish and world cycling at the start guarantees great excitement, and the stage itself will run through the picturesque Roztocze region. Its main highlight will be Zamość, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where we will meet the first stage winner and leader of the ORLEN General Classification.

Today marks the start of the 3rd Tour de Pologne Women! For three consecutive days, the riders will compete on the roads of the Lublin Voivodeship over flat and rolling stages that showcase the beauty of the region. The opening stage will be a perfect showcase of the scenic Roztocze area and Zamość, known as the “Pearl of the Renaissance” or the “Ideal City.” It is here that the stage will both start and finish, and where the first leader of the ORLEN General Classification will be crowned.

The stage is 105 kilometres long and will favour sprinters, who will be well represented at the start. At kilometre 75, the riders will contest the LOTTO Sprint Prime in Szczebrzeszyn, where the winner will take the lead in the LOTTO Most Active Rider Classification.

“We’re starting from Zamość, a city on the UNESCO World Heritage list, and I hope we’ll see a great spectacle. We are fully prepared, and the route will take us through the picturesque Roztocze – Adamów, Krasnobród, Józefów, Zwierzyniec – all the way to Szczebrzeszyn, the last town before the finish. This is a unique opportunity to showcase our region to fans in Poland and around the world. I cycle myself, and I know that Roztocze offers not only beautiful views but also demanding climbs. This stage, despite its charm, will not be easy” said Rafał Zwolak, Mayor of Zamość.

The start list for the 3rd Tour de Pologne Women is impressive – featuring as many as seven UCI Women’s WorldTeams and many dynamic riders. Favourites for today’s stage include Chiara Consonni (Canyon//SRAM zondacrypto), Alexandra Manly (AG Insurance – Soudal Team), Silvia Zanardi (Human Powered Health), and Clara Copponi (FDJ-SUEZ). Among the Polish riders, special attention should be paid to national team leader Kaja Rysz, as well as Olga Wankiewicz of MAT ATOM Deweloper Wrocław and Karolina Kumięga of TKK Pacific Nestle Fitness.

With so many favourites and an open situation in the ORLEN General Classification, all teams will be highly motivated to go for the win. The riders will set off at 12:50, and the finish is expected around 15:25. The 3rd Tour de Pologne Women will be broadcast on TVP, Eurosport, and HBO Max, with the signal reaching fans in 65 countries, promoting women’s cycling and the Lubelskie Voivodeship on the international stage.
